How to Select a Product to Promote Using ClickBank Gravity
By Andrew Holtom
Have you considered how to select a product to promote using ClickBank Gravity? What does the Gravity ranking mean and how does it work? The answers to these questions will determine which products you select to promote in your affiliate marketing efforts. I’ve been asked this question a number of times recently and want to put the record straight.
Many people don’t enjoy statistics, however, with online marketing, it’s essential to know something about how to interpret numbers – such as those on Google Analytics and the Gravity stats on ClickBank Marketplace. Whether you are new to affiliate marketing, or whether it’s something you’ve been involved in for some time, one of your goals is going to be to select the products that will do well for you in returning a profit.
ClickBank’s gravity is a representation of how many affiliates have sold that product within the last 12 weeks. When you take a look at that number next to your product of interest, you’ll need to weigh up how many sales there are. If the number is very high, then you know that you are going to have a lot of competition. At this point, you will need to run a few searches on Google. Take a look at how many times the sites with the product are showing up.
Doing a search for the product won’t really give you all the answers that you need though, as many people use sites such as Squidoo to link through to their main website (that will link through to the product’s sales page). So you won’t know how many people are selling the product through searching, however, it will give you some indication as to how saturated the market is already with that product.
As with any SEO and competition work, you might want to use a product such as Traffic Travis to study how keywords have been used in sites. You will be able to identify gaps in the use of keywords and find a way that you can get to the top of the Google search engine results pile – a must for any successful affiliate marketing person.
So, why don’t people pick the products with the low gravity? Well, even though these products may be something in demand, it is quite possible that their sales page is not strong enough to retain a potential consumer long enough to buy.
In my experience of selecting products and affiliate marketing, I will quite often take a product that is between 50 and 100. This will mean that I can compete without too much difficulty, and that I’m likely to make sales.
